Windows Partition Recovery: When CHKDSK Fails
by Tyler Jose

Over time, your Windows hard drive may develop some errors due to a number of reasons. The most frequent causes of hard drive problems are as follows:
Ø Improper system shutdown
Ø Hard drive fatigue
Ø Virus attack
Ø Power failure
Ø File system corruption

In such cases, our data becomes inaccessible and we need to repair our hard drive to access of our precious data. To get rid of logical issues we need take certain steps:
1. We should have the Windows operating system disk to try recovery using the Recovery Console. To do that we need to boot the system using the Windows CD and then enter the recovery console
2. Also, we need to remember the Administrator password as Recovery Console will ask us to select an installation (multiboot systems only) first and then enter the administrator password, if you have an OEM system please press Enter key only once as there is generally no password. We can confirm that using the Safe Boot too, if we have been there before.
3. Type ‘chkdsk /p’ command in the Recovery Console where /p is the parameter which executes an in depth check even if the drive is not marked for chkdsk to run. The /p parameter won’t make any changes to our hard drive.
4. The system will start checking for errors on hard drive. If you get any error message, then CHKDSK will repair those errors. If no errors are found, it won’t be able to repair the hard drive.
5. If it finds the error, type ‘chkdsk /r’ command in command prompt and press the Enter key. The /r parameter locates bad sectors and recovers the readable information.
6. Once you press enter, CHKDSK will start checking each sector of your hard drive for errors and will automatically repair them.
7. When the process completes, exit Recovery Console and remove installation CD.

Although, this method is very useful for fixing hard drive errors, but it does not work in all cases of hard drive problems. The degree of fragmentation in the hard drive’s file system can cause the drive to actually fail, most of the times logically like File system corruption. For physical crash, it is also dependent on the hard drive’s MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) or MTTF (Mean Time To Failure) figure in hours of operation. Unfortunately, if this method does not work, you will have to use the third party tools to perform partition recovery to get your hard drive partitions and data back.

To have organized and trouble free Partition recovery we need to select appropriate partition recovery software. The Partition recovery software are third party tools, which scan our physical hard drive and extract missing, lost or corrupted hard drive partitions and then extract data from them. In order to ensure safe, accurate and instant partition recovery to have powerful partition recovery software, such as Stellar Phoenix Window Data Recovery is highly recommended by professionals. Stellar Phoenix Partition Recovery software can handle all the partition loss related problems from a wide array of media. It is compatible with Windows Vista, XP, 2003 and 2000. To know more about this software, download and use its free demo version. The demo version shows a preview of all office documents and hexadecimal view of all other files to assess the software quality in terms of the data that can be recovered.

OFFICE TIPS

9 Tips For Cutting Costs On Office Supplies
by Matthew Pawlina

Offices are always on the look out for cost trimming measures. One of the areas where savings can be made is in the buying of office supplies.

Office supplies like paper, printing inks, pens, clips, staplers and more are used everyday and is where there can be considerable wastage too.

Office administrators can apply the following cost cutting techniques:

1. Create a system whereby orders are only placed periodically say once a month or quarter. Keep a log of who has taken what and set up a system to recycle printing paper (make sure both sides are used). Aim for a paperless eco-friendly office.

2. Place orders for office supply from online stores. Make sure the order is large enough to warrant free shipping.

3. Look for generic brands of office supply. These are of quality and do not cost as much as branded varieties.

4. Surf the internet and look for discount online stores. These sell office supplies at lower rates than retail.

5. Use online directories to get quotes and compare costs. Often the same supplies will be sold by certain merchants at a lower rate as they cut overheads by storing goods in ware houses and run virtual offices.

6. Look for seasonal discounts or special offers. Many online stores give away freebies or further discounts to return customers. Find out if any of the online office supply stores have reward points or systems.

7. Set up a system whereby wastage is checked periodically. Ensure people shred documents and do not throw paper clips away. Some offices discipline staff by checking dustbins for wastage of office supplies.

8. Always comparison shop and look for bargains offline and online. Keep quality, quantity and price in mind at all times. Avoid being locked with a single vendor. Create a system that every time office supplies are ordered the lowest quote will get the order.

9. Consider leasing office equipment instead of buying. Copy machines, fax machines, and printers can be leased with maintenance included. Find out what the advantages are versus buying these machines.

Always create a list of office supply needs and then starch out items that are not necessities. Set systems in place so that employees do not use office supplies for personal use and do not order things that are not essential. For example most computers today have an inbuilt calculator and fax system. Think do you need an extra fax machine or a desk top calculator? The list should ideally have three sections: expendables, non-expendables, and work room supplies.

Similarly find cost effective solutions for telephone systems, internet connections, and so on. Think economy and lowered costs not expensive and hi-tech.

Be an educated buyer and keep abreast of the latest articles and tips on saving office supply costs on the World Wide Web. Browse the internet for new bargains and office supply directories which will offer great bargains and savings.

Buy good quality office supplies in minimal quantities at great rates and save yourself a bundle.

TECHNICAL TECHNIQUES

PPS (PowerPoint Show) on DVD Machine by share wonder

PPS (PowerPoint show) is the PowerPoint file that can be opened by starting slide show directly instead of opening the editing view. You can "convert" a PPT file to PPS file simply by renaming the file extensions. To play a PPS file, you need PowerPoint or PowerPoint viewer installed on your computer.

Quite often, you might have received a PowerPoint presentation with a PPS extension rather than the normal PPT extension from others? Why? No presentation is created for presenting to the author only. A presentation must be shown in front of a group or wider range of audiences. PPS can bring you to the slide show view directly, any better ways? I don’t think so. Now, another problem, what is a PowerPoint show usually created for?

A.Deliver to your families or friends but do not want it to be modified.
B.For merchant or business show
C.For some celebration thing
D.For teaching or training ……

We can modify the PPS files by renaming the extensions breezily so if you want to send your presentations to others and keep your presentations originally, PPS is not the best choose.

Let see PPS for merchant and business show. It is the good idea to use PPS for merchant and business show because it can economize the advertising fee. The most import thing is we can design and revise our advertising easily if we like, the hardware we need is a computer and a projector.

Using PowerPoint for celebration like anniversary celebration, graduation ceremony and birthday party is also a judicious decision. It impressed me much when I was invited to a graduation ceremony with my senior. They created a wonderful presentation and put lots of pictures which are the wonderful memory of their college life.

I don’t know if you have noticed that there are some inconvenient things when we use the PPS for the merchant and business show. Or maybe you have been puzzled in the birthday party without a projector. We just have computer, DVD player and TV. Did you have even thought converting your presentations to DVD and then you can play back your slide show on a DVD player or on TV? If we can, the problem can solve completely!

LCD TV can be found on the street everywhere and the ADS rolled. At home we have TVs and DVD players, why not take the advantage of these sets and play your presentation on them?

OK, now it’s a thing of converting PPS to DVD, or burn PPS to DVD. PowerPoint does not have the built-in ability to save presentations as video files or other video formats such as DVD-Video and, even if it did, there would be significant losses of interactivity (because DVD-Video and PowerPoint slide show have very different capabilities in this area) and loss of visual fidelity (DVD-Video resolution is less than typical computer display resolution and most television will not render colors the same way that a computer display will). And how can we do this?

Two solutions of converting PPS to DVD:

1. Windows Movie Maker (WMM), Windows XP and Vista contain this free software so you probably have it. But the troublesome thing is, you must save the presentation to a series of images and then import all the pictures onto WMM. Click on Import Media and select the pictures you want to make a movie. Finally you can use a third-party program to burn the movie you made to DVDs. The advantage of this method is that it won’t spend you a cent, but all animations, transitions and videos will be discarded.

2. The professional PowerPoint to DVD conversion tool PPT2DVD http://www.ppt-to-dvd.com

PPT2DVD empowers you to convert your PPT or PPS to DVD with DVD menu powered and then burn it onto DVD disc. You can play your PPS presentations on DVD player with a TV set.

After converting your PPS to DVD, you no longer worry about others will modify your presentations, you no longer worry about the projector and your AD fee. Just enjoy your time when designing the merchant show and celebration with your DVD player and TV.
